TeCK DataBase

Telomere, Centromere & Kinetochore DataBase
DOCUMENTATION

Contents of the database:

Based on the rationale of "seeing is believing", the TECKDB database contains proteins and nucleotide sequence that are associted with telomere, centromere and kinetochore. All the proteins and nucleotide data present in TECKDB have been manually curated from Swiss-Prot and NCBI respectively.

TECKDB is a unique database that gives information about proteins along with their synonyms, organism, lineages, various accession identifiers such as pfam id, swiss-prot id etc.,function, localization and sequence information such as molecular weight and length. Nucleotide sequences of telomere and centromere are also available in TECKDB along with information about basepairs, oraganism, chromosome number, gene and their related articles. Both the protein and nucleotide sequence can be retrieved by the user in FASTA format.

TECKDB focuses on 51 organisms such as Homo sapiens, Mus musculus, Saccharomyces cerevisiae,Drosophilla melanogaster, Gallus gallus, Bos taurus, Rattus norvegicus, Arabidopsis thaliana etc..

TECKDB ID:

Each entry in the database have been given a unique ID both for proteins and nucleotide sequence. Five different types of ID's have been given. The ID starts with TBP, CBP and KBP for telomere binding proteins, centromere binding proteins and kinetochore respectively; TEL and CEN for telomere nucleotide sequence and centromere nucleotide sequence respectively. These are followed by numbers which are unique for each entry.
How to browse TECKDB:

The user can browse through the TECKDB database instead of searching for a specific protein or nucleotide. In the browse page, the end user can browse through organism, telomere binding proteins, centromere binding proteins, kinetochore, telomere sequence and centromere sequence. On clicking each link respective id and description will be displayed. Detailed information can be obtained by clicking the ID displayed in the result.
How to search TECKDB:

Three searching options are provided in TECKDB:Name/Keyword search, Advance search and BLAST search.
  • Name/Keyword search will present all entries containing the input keywords.
For Example: On providing CENP as input, entries related to CENP will be displayed.
  • Advance search allows you to input maximim seven terms and minimum two terms to find the information more specifically.
For example: If the user want to search for Centromere protein A CENP-A specifically, the user should specify any ID's such as TECKDB id, pfam id, swiss-prot id, blocks id or interpro id realted to CENP-A centromere protein.
  • BLAST Search  could be used to find the specific protein and/or related homologues by sequence alignment. this search option  will help you to find the querying  protein accurately and fast.
